What is "Defining Women"? Defining Women is a consortium of five allied but non-competing women business owners who have pooled their resources to create a newsletter that serves women. To visit the Defining Women web site, please click here.

"Our newsletter will promote principles of personal success for women. These ideas will illustrate success in the working world, in interpersonal relationships, and in developing self-esteem and confidence. Background:

Under contract to the State of New Mexico Securities Division, Desert Sky Communications and Carol Jones, co-owner of New Mexico Investment Advisers, created a radio series for consumer-investors called "Investing Your Money." The series has been running on five public radio stations in New Mexico.

Mission:

"Investing Your Money" gives radio listeners objective, reliable, up-to-date, and easily understandable information about how to invest their money wisely.

Format:

131, one-minute spots. The spots are run five to seven days each week for 26 weeks (six months), and may be repeated immediately over the following six months.

Cost:

Free to radio stations.

Description and Target Audiences:

The series could be subtitled "Investing 101." It is actually a basic course in investing, designed to appeal primarily to people who have disposable income, but have not yet learned about investment products and how to use them. Both newly active and knowledgeable investors should also find the series valuable.

An original "signature piece" has been composed for the series and is used as a music bed under each spot.

The series is voiced by an experienced professional announcer, Carol Eason, and was recorded and produced for broadcast at Mountain Run Recording Studios in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

  • Why people should learn how to invest.
  • How to interview a prospective financial adviser.
  • How to work with the financial adviser you’ve chosen.
  • Common assets used as investments: how to set investment goals; how to match investments with stated goals.

Accuracy of Information:

All of the material presented in "Investing Your Money" was reviewed by the New Mexico Securities Division and by the Compliance Division of Investment Management and Research. In other states, the participating Securities Divisions will review and approve the information.
